Our installation team successfully resolved a critical security flaw for a commercial client by replacing a severely degraded timber door with an ultra-secure, LPS 1175 SR4-rated steel security door.

Issue

Our customer was suffering with a poor operating door, swollen timbers which were hindering the opening and closing of the door. This was a safety risk due to this specific door being on a fire exit route.

The existing timber door due to excessive moisture ingress within the door itself as well as the frame work dramatically decreased the security of its original design. The original wooden infrastructure had succumbed to severe moisture rot over time. This environmental decay left the property highly vulnerable to targeted forced entry.

HEM Projects Solution

By upgrading to an SR4 high-security steel door asset, the facility now benefits from a premium defence level (LPS1175 - SR4) certified to withstand sustained attacks using high-powered cordless tools, heavy crowbars, and grinders. Stability of the doors with the correct installation procedure provides a long life secure solution that provides the means of escape as required.

Understanding Steel Doors

What Are Steel Doors?

Steel doors are constructed from steel sheets, often filled with insulation material to improve energy efficiency. They are available in various styles and finishes, making them suitable for commercial properties requiring high security.

Benefits of Steel Doors

  • Security: Steel doors are incredibly strong and resistant to forced entry.

  • Durability: They withstand harsh weather conditions and resist warping, cracking, and rusting.

  • Energy Efficiency: Insulated steel doors can help reduce energy costs by maintaining indoor temperatures.

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Available in various designs, steel doors can enhance the overall look of your property.

Survey

For a door of this security level, there has to be a secure substrate for the installation to accommodate the door system. This is not only down to physical fitting within the space but also the substrate and if this will take a secure fixing that will stay secure. All these points will need to be addressed during survey.

Installation

The door element speaks for itself with regards to security however to ensure its intended use the installation scenario must provide a suitable substrate to work with. Security within the installation is paramount, using the specified fixings and number of fixings that satisfies the certified test results. Always follow the manufacturers instructions with regards to fixings.

Conclusion

Installing a steel door can significantly enhance your property’s safety, security and energy efficiency. By understanding the installation process and preparing adequately, you can ensure a smooth experience. Remember to hire a professional installer for the best results and to keep your door well-maintained for longevity.
